The motive8 Schools Team delivered a team building day for all Year 7 students at Grey Court Secondary School in Ham as part of the school’s induction week.
Running and coordinating the day were 8 motive8 coaches and 1 Project Manager. The day began with an assembly led by motive8 for all students and teachers, which outlined the theme of the day and emphasised the relevance and importance of working in teams to achieve success throughout school life.
The students were then split into their tutor groups and rotated around four different activities, with each activity led by 2 motive8 coaches. The activities chosen were designed to combine physical, initiative and communication-based skills, encouraging the children to work to together to achieve success in each task.
Activities included:
Bridge Building - Children were asked to design and construct a bridge adhering to a set of rules and using only the materials provided.
Share a Secret - Children wrote down a fact about themselves that the other children did not know. These facts were then displayed for all to see and the children had to decide who wrote which statement.
Boot Camp - The group worked together on a series of command tasks led by their fitness instructor. These tasks included paired work for circuit training, skipping, boxercise, shuttle runs.
The Maze - Children attempted to negotiate a maze based on “yes” or “no” responses from a leader for correct or incorrect steps.
Human Knot - Standing in a circle, children had to hold the hands of two different people across the circle. They then had to untangle themselves to make a circle without breaking the chain of hands.
The day concluded with a presentation of medals for particularly outstanding performances and certificates for all that took part.
"I wanted to take the opportunity to thank your team. The students had a really positive experience and feedback has been very good. This really was the end to their first week that I wanted.”
Ash Ali, Assistant Headteacher, Grey Court School
“It is vital that young people recognize the value of working as a team in order to achieve success. I hope their day with motive8 helped to reinforce that message.”
