QuadKids 2011

St Mary's University Track

2011 saw motive8 once again host our annual QuadKids athletics competition. Despite the original date having to be postponed due to rain, we still had 5 schools turn up to the event in the last week of term, with teams of 16 children from years 3-6.

Every child took part in a sprint, distance run, vortex throw and standing long jump. The afternoon ran very smoothly, with each member of the team playing a key role in its overall success.

Due to immense organisation and time keeping, the event ran ahead of schedule which allowed for team relays and a whole group cool down to take place.

When it was time for the award ceremony, all children, teachers and parents were asked to gather in the centre of the track. The atmosphere was buzzing as everyone eagerly awaited the results.

Toby Radcliffe is a professional long-course triathlete for the Timex Multisport Team. Toby was our guest speaker at the 2011 Quad Kids event and agreed to come down and talk to the children who took part about being a full time sportsman and answer their questions on sport, training and nutrition.

When Toby turned up he was all kitted out with the best and latest cycling gear and got the children’s attention instantly. Before we knew it, hands were going up left, right and centre to ask Toby questions about him and his sport. Toby told the children how he got into being a triathlete and spoke in detail about his school life and sporting interests as a young boy.

After a lengthy question and answer session, Toby invited the children for photos and a chance to get a closer look at his very impressive bike. Having Toby arrive at the end of the event definitely made it finish on a ultimate high. He was a true inspiration for our children and we hope to see him again at future completion days.

Our top 3 schools for years 3&4 in reverse order were: St Mary’s Juniors, Sheen Mount and winners Collis and, for years 5&6, Sheen Mount, Hampton Hill Juniors and Collis.

A huge well done is due to all of our team, with a special mention to Collis Primary School and their Team Manager, Jenny Day, for a clean sweep victory.
