motive8 Primary School High-5 Netball

Marshgate Primary School in Richmond, Surrey

motive8 launched its new Inter-school Sports Competition Programme with a primary schools High-5 Netball tournament held at Marshgate Primary School in Richmond, Surrey.

The motive8 Sports Competition Programme was introduced following requests from primary schools to increase the number of opportunities for young people to take part in competitive sport.   This first event was organized by motive8’s Project Manager for Competitions, Aylia Hamilton-Bannis, and involved 72 young people from 8 teams representing 5 different schools: Marshgate, Kew Riverside, St. Mary’s Juniors, Sheen Mount and Collis.

The tournament was umpired and managed by motive8 coaches. Each team played three matches, with the top two teams from the two pools meeting to decide the overall winner. Each player received a participation certificate, with the players from the top three teams each receiving medals from motive8’s Director, Nick Sadler.

Young Leaders from Marshgate School, who were trained by motive8 coaches as part of the Sports Leaders UK accredited course, helped with the organisation of the event. Having completed the Young Leaders Award, which teaches children important leadership qualities such as communication, organisation and safety, the children were able to run their own lunchtime clubs for younger pupils, become playground monitors and assist with school events.   The motive8 Sports Competition Programme will provide opportunities for young leaders to experience a variety of event management roles, working alongside professionals from motive8 as well as opportunities for participants to put their sporting talents into a competitive environment. A robust evaluation process enables motive8 to monitor and build upon each event that it delivers, improving the quality of provision for every young person.

“I have always been a huge fan of inter-school competition. Our aim as a company is to set up and run a multisport league offering regular fixtures across a variety of sports and activities. I believe that there are many valuable lessons to be learnt from these kinds of tournaments including teamwork, respect, realising achievement, experiencing feelings of winning and losing and the value of participation.”

Nick Sadler, Director, motive8
