motive8 Gymnastics Camp February Half Term 2011

Collis Primary School

With great numbers signing up for the Gymnastics, Cheerleading and Streetdance Camp, we were able to gear our content so that children were working towards a display for their parents at the end of every day.

The larger numbers really helped create a “squad” feel, where children supported each other in putting on great performances.

Although the time is tight to put on a performance, what we got out of the children was quite remarkable considering some had never taken part in cheerleading and streetdance prior to our camp.

In the gymnastics sessions, children were presented with the opportunity to learn and progress skills on apparatus including the vault, trampette, floor and the bar. Groups were rotated around the appratus and worked with coaches at a level suited to their age group to ensure that every child progressed in what they are doing and was constantly challenged in a fun and engaging way.

Cheerleading was spiced up with the introduction of pompoms to the routines. Again, the greater numbers lead to better looking routines and the formations we were able to put together were so much more fun! Children worked on basic skills to put into their routine covering 4 of the 5 basic elements of motions, jumps, stunts and dance.

Streetdance this camp was broken down into 2 groups; the older group were taught choreographed routines and given the opportunity to freestyle for a section of their performance whilst the younger children were guided through a choreographed routine. What we looked to achieve this time round was performances where the children could all achieve and confidently perform at the end of the day. On the whole, all the children wanted to show their hard work to their parents.
