motive8 Apprenticeships

motive8 has developed a longstanding relationship with Richmond upon Thames College (RTC) and has committed to taking on a new Apprentice each academic year. Every Apprentice is offered a minimum of 16 hours per week, during which we try to structure their time so as to both support them in completing their academic syllabus as well as exposing them to a wide range of experiences within the health and fitness industry.

Every month, a member of the motive8 team meets with the apprentice and their tutor from RTC to conduct a formal review and feedback session. We feel it is vital that every student has an avid interest in the industry they are entering and has the opportunity picture a realistic career path during their time with us.

Our Apprentice for 2009/10 has spent both time in the office and also out in the field, delivering coaching at our primary schools. In addition to working well with our coaching team, he has also completed his Level 2 Coaching qualification. Having enjoyed the experience so much, he has decided he wants to become a teacher.

In the new academic year, on completion of his apprenticeship, he will be employed as a classroom assistant during the mornings and then continue coaching with motive8 in the afternoons, all the while furthering his studies in the evenings and weekends.

For motive this is a huge success story - not only have we assisted our Apprentice in finding a career path he is passionate about, but have also helped him to take his first steps into that chosen profession.

We are to continue supporting our apprenticeships post placement and are currently developing an Internship programme to support the transition from work placement to full time employment. A mentoring system will also be implemented at the start of the new school year.
