Intra-School Competition

Collis School in Teddington

motive8 continued its new Intra-school Sports Competition Programme with a football tournament for pupils in Years 4 & 5 at Collis Primary School in Teddington.

Spread over 2 days, both year groups took part in an afternoon each of football. A total of 90 children took part each day, with each year group split into 12 mini teams containing a mix of both boys and girls.

Once the tournament was underway, all children remained active throughout the duration of the afternoon, with teams moving around the different pitches to enable everyone to play against each other.

By organising this mass participation event in this way, it meant that at no point were any teams sitting out waiting to play and thus all children were engaged in activity the entire afternoon.

To encourage all children to take part, even those who are less confident, we adapted the game play to reward effort as well as actual goal scoring. For example, 2 points were awarded if a girl scored a goal and 1 point for good teamwork.

Teams that placed 1st, 2nd and 3rd were presented with medals as well as the players selected by Collis teachers and motive8 staff for displayed excellent effort, teamwork, attitude and behaviour.

"The day was a great success, with intra-school tournaments being a fantastic way to get a lot of children active and enjoying sports together. They all knew which pitches to go to and it was very well structured getting children to their next game."

Jenny Day, PE Coordinator, Collis School
