Curriculum Delivery

Marshgate and Kew Riverside schools

"PE makes a distinctive contribution to the aims of the national curriculum. The “PE Programme of Study” provides the framework to plan sequences of work, learning outcomes and teaching approaches that develop successful learners, confident individuals and responsible citizens."

Qualifications and Curriculum Development Agency (QCDA)

motive8 has been delivering curriculum Physical Education lessons in schools since 2006. motive8 is currently responsible for delivering 24 hours of curriculum Physical Education every week in three schools, Marshgate, Hampton Wick Infants and Kew Riverside.

Working closely alongside the teachers in these schools, motive8 commenced delivery of their new curriculum games sessions in 2009/2010, focusing on a thematic approach rather than sport-specific units of work.

motive8’s Curriculum Content Manager, Philippa McGregor, provided all coaches with the resources required to enable delivery of the curriculum in the following themes:

  1. Invasion – played end to end, attacking a goal or line target and people can ‘invade’ the other team’s space in order to score
  2. Net/Court/Wall – played within a designated space and usually across a net or line where players play in their own area of court
  3. Striking/Fielding – games which involve batsmen, fielder and bowlers and batters try to strike a ball in order to score

The thematic multi-skills approach has been implemented to ensure:

  • young people acquire basic skills (sending, receiving, travelling and making decisions) and develop co-ordination before they advance to more complex aspects
  • there is a breadth of games experiences
  • children can recognize, develop and transfer strategies and tactics with ease

motive8 has also developed new units of work for their coaches to deliver high quality lessons in athletics, gymnastics and dance. These activity areas incorporate current national governing body resources and help to ensure that children attending ‘motive8 schools’ receive a broad and balanced Physical Education curriculum.

motive8 has become a vital resource in our school, fulfilling our physical education curriculum and enabling us to hit our targets for activity provision.”

Debbie Knight, School Business Manager, Kew Riverside Primary School

“The children form a really close relationship with the motive8 coaches that are assigned to the school. We have seen a marked and rapid improvement in their skill development through the motive8 provision.”

Katie Bentham, Acting Headteacher, Marshgate Primary School
