July 2010 signalled the 6th motive8 sports day at Kew Riverside Primary School.
As per usual the team had worked hard prior to the event, with planning commencing very early on to ensure it was the best sports day yet. The team began by setting out the field for the ten events to take place as well as building the marquee which was to be used to collate the results and prepare the packs of score sheets for event runners. Once everything was set up, the motive staff headed off to the events they were running to await the arrival of the teams.
Project Managers waited at the gates to direct teams around the field for an opening lap before they stopped at their first event. After a brief introduction to the day from the Headteacher, the events commenced.
The day ran like clockwork with every child from reception up to year 6 competing in all ten events. Teachers and TA assistants led their teams around the field, with parents filling up around the events’ perimeters offering their support and really adding to the great atmosphere of the day.
Once the teams had completed all ten events, it was time for the year 5 and 6 sprint races. The motive8 team was thrilled to see such a large group of children putting themselves forward for the heats of the 60m sprints. Teachers commented it was the largest turnout they had seen in years.
The heats got underway followed by the final, with great sportsmanship displayed by the children and fantastic support from their teammates. Once the children’s races were over, it came to the last two events of the day - the mums and dads races. Via some slight persuasion from the motive8 team, there was another great turnout of numbers. Parents really got into the spirit of the event, with some fantastic demonstrations of healthy competition!
The day ran completely to schedule, finished off perfectly with a medal ceremony for all the winners. Sophie Worth, the school PE Co-ordinator, stated: “It was the best sports day yet!”
