The Quad Kids event was the biggest competition the motive8 schools team has ever run. The event, held at St Mary’s University track, attracted 161 children competing from 6 different schools. Each child competed in 4 events: a vortex throw, standing long jump, sprint and distance run. motive8 staff, along with the help of Ben Pooche, a representative of Quad Kids, ran the events on a team rotation system
There was a considerable turn out of support from parents, friends and families of the children, which helped to create a true athletic event ‘feel’. We were even lucky enough to see the well-known face of Lawrence Dallalgio in the crowd, supporting his son who was competing in the event.
One of the main reasons for running the event was to enable children to experience a traditional athletics competition. They were racing on a real track, each with competitor numbers and competing against children from all over the borough.
Once all children had completed the four disciplines, the afternoon came to a close. Schools were informed that results would be processed and emailed out within a week. The competition was tight which resulted in a draw between the Collis Year 5, Stanley Year 6 and Sheen Mount Year 5 teams.
Every child who competed in the event received a motive8 certificate of achievement, with medals also awarded to the top 3 point-scoring boys and girls from each year group. The event was a huge success and the schools team are hoping to run another one next year with even greater attendance numbers.
For the new school year, we have developed a complete tournament schedule to support the current borough schedule therefore increasing the provision of competitive sports in the area.
"motive8 did a great job with such a large number of children. They loved experiencing competition on a real track and due to the rotation were active for the majority of the event."
