Project Case Study

Langdon Park, Teddington

OM Property Management

Langdon Park is an exclusive development situated between Teddington and Hampton Wick. The development comprises 188 houses and flats and also features 35 acres of landscaped gardens and a separate building housing the residents-only gymnasium.

The gym originally opened back in 2003 with only very basic equipment. Usage levels were low as whilst people liked the idea of having a gym on site, they felt the equipment wasn’t suitable for a full body workout.

Earlier in 2010, motive8 was asked to supply two new treadmills for the development and subsequently won a maintenance contract. A few months on, and motive8 was approached by the managing agents, OM Property Management, to do a full redesign of the gym.

In addition to the new Technogym treadmills supplied earlier in the year, motive8 has supplied an upright bike, cross-trainer, Concept2 rowing machine, 2 extra pieces of resistance equipment and a stretching area with Swiss Ball. Warm up and cool down posters have also been provided.

A survey with residents prior to the installation also showed security was a concern so a new gym entry / security system using an electronic fob was installed which also tracks entry and exit. They now know that 5pm-9pm weekdays and at weekends is the most popular time to visit the gym – and that 54% per cent of residents go on a regular basis.

All new residents are offered an induction to help educate them on the proper use of the equipment and personal training is also offered on site. Residents have also expressed interest in a tri-weekly boot camp, which will not only complement residents’ workouts in the gym but will help to build a community atmosphere.

"We are delighted to be able to turn a fairly non-functional gym into a user-friendly, all-round well equipped facility. The residents we worked with were really helpful and supportive and the feedback from them has been fantastic."
