Grayshott Spa
The former country seat of Alfred Lord Tennyson, Grayshott Spa is nestled in quiet corner of Surrey a short distant from the trendy town of Guildford. This rural retreat, set amongst 47 acres of tranquil gardens and woodland, has been designed from every aspect to help its guests relax, unwind and be absorbed into the warm and friendly atmosphere that the spa exudes.
Grayshott’s emphasis in on healthy living, with its mouth-watering menu of feel-good food combined with a programme of natural therapies that blend with its luxurious spa facilities to create the ultimate ambience for a relaxing break. The gym, tennis academy and exercise classes headed by an Olympic gold medallist ensure fitness fanatics and those embarking on a health boost won’t be disappointed.
The spa facilities at Grayshott have recently undergone a transformation to update them and bring them in line with the rest of the retreat, which has a modern twist on country chic with its luxurious décor and sumptuous furnishings. Award winning pool and spa designers Heritage Pools were chosen to complete the new indoor pool and hydrotherapy spa pool at the recommendation of the architect who was working on the renovation.
Heritage installed a new indoor pool measuring 12.50m x 6.80m with a maximum water depth of 1.50m that is set alongside the new infinity edge whirlpool complete with a neck massaging water cascade, and underwater massage seats.
“We worked closely with Grayshott’s architect to find the right materials and tile finishes to create a unique relaxing, yet contemporary design for the spa area”
explained Brian Andrews, Managing Director of Heritage Pools. A combination of light natural stone contrasts perfectly with the deep blue mosaic tiling that covers the pool and spa as well as elaborate wall designs.
“Grayshott choose a very natural colour scheme, with deep blue tiles for the pool floor, natural stone mosaics on the pool walls, and natural stone for the pool surrounds. A combination of the blue mosaics and stone mosaics are used to finish the Hydropool and cascade water feature. The overall finish is exceptional,”
commented Andrews. The whirlpool has an infinity edge and is set on a raised area above the main pool.
“Infinity edges are the latest trend in pool and spa design and provide an unrivalled finish, particularly when the pool looks out a over a view as the Grayshott whirlpool does with its views over the grounds”
explained Andrews. Grayshott’s proprietor Simon Lowe, commented
“the infinity edge works really well and looks far more attractive than what we had previously”.
The new indoor pool, which was designed with a relaxation rather a fitness focus, is fitted with a disabled lift and facilities for guests who have limited mobility. To finish the chic look of the new pool area, an artistic rippled chrome ceiling feature was fitted to mirror the ripples of the water. The ceiling feature was Simon Lowe’s idea, as he explained,
“I saw an interesting reflective ceiling at Gatwick Airport that I thought would work extremely well above the new pool to reflect the water and add interesting dimension to the spa area and complement the design scheme we had selected”.
Grayshott’s Spa newly refurbished pool and whirlpool are now open for guests to enjoy and have so far received a tremendous response. For further information on Grayshott Spa visit http://www.grayshottspa.com
